Black History Month 2024

February 12, 2024 -- Black History Month celebrates Black history, culture, and achievements across all sectors. Established in 1926, Black History Month is an opportunity to honor Black Americans, amplify Black experiences, and engage with the complex and lingering consequences that are the legacy of racism. Local and national organizations have planned a number of events for all ages in celebration of Black History Month.

For suggestions of local events to be added to the following list, please email us at cityhp@cityhpil.com with the subject line, "Black History Month."

Highland Park Public Library

The Library is aligning with the Smithsonian's National Museum of African American History and Culture's theme, "African Americans and the Arts". Library displays feature selected books, music, movies, etc. for all ages along with materials in our collections to provide people with easy access to understand the history and contributions of Black Americans.

The Library's online resources, particularly kanopy, hoopla, and National Geographic KIDS! have curated music, movies, ebooks, audiobooks, comics, and more for Black History Month. Visitors are also encouraged to explore a digital display with a summary of the origins of Black History Month.
