2023 Bike Month Events

May is Bike Month in Highland Park! The City Council recognized the importance of non-motorized transportation in our community with a proclamation at the Monday, April 24, 2023 City Council meeting

Save the date for two special events:

May 13: Kids' Bike Safety Clinic

Join Highland Park/Highwood Kiwanis for their second annual Kids' Bicycle Safety Clinic on Saturday, May 13, 10:30 AM - 1:30 PM at Highland Park High School - South Parking Lot. Kids should bring their bicycles and helmets for bike safety lessons including the rules of the road, bicycle etiquette, and traffic safety. The last session begins at 1:00 PM. Day-of registration on-site is required, but RSVPs are encouraged to bikekiwanis@yahoo.com.

May 28/June 3: Historic Preservation Bike Tour

The Historic Preservation Commission has created a brand-new, guided bike tour scheduled for May 28 at 1:00 PM and June 3 at 11:00 AM with a roughly 6-mile route. The tour will begin at Moraine Park on Sheridan Road and head north toward the historic Fort Sheridan district and then west before making a loop back toward the park while stopping at historic and architecturally significant homes along the way.

Bike participants will enjoy free beach access from Moraine Park courtesy of the Park District of Highland Park. More information and the route map will be posted at cityhpil.com/hpc when available. Contact Zubin Coleman, City Planner at zcoleman@cityhpil.com to RSVP for the guided bike tour.

Encouraging cycling through policy initiatives, infrastructure investment and programming is part of the City's MoveHP plan. View the plan at cityhpil.com/movehp.
