Proposed Briergate Overlay District

The City of Highland Park is interested in public comment pertaining to possible creation of the Briergate Overlay District and modifications to the City’s zoning code.Briergate Overlay District Map

In 2018, City Council passed a “Red Flag” Resolution and directed the Plan and Design Commission and City staff to conduct planning analysis and facilitate a policymaking discussion for the Briergate District. The evaluation addresses whether specific business uses in the Briergate District, which are currently permitted under B-3 zoning, are aligned with the desired character and function of the District, as well as their potential impact on the adjacent residential neighborhoods. Policy considerations include a zoning map amendment and zoning text amendment to create a new zoning overlay district with specific permitted uses, changing the zoning to B4-4: Mixed Use, Commercial Service District, or a combination of the two.

A Public Hearing is scheduled for April 16, 2019 at 7:30 PM in the Council Chambers in Highland Park City Hall at 1707 St Johns Avenue to consider a potential zoning map amendment and/or zoning text amendment for a Briergate Overlay District.
