Pumpkin Composting

After a great Halloween weekend, all "gourd" things must come to an end! Pumpkins are compostable and may be collected with yard and kitchen waste as part of the City's curbside composting program. Be sure to remove candles, wax, LED lights, and any inorganic decorations before composting your pumpkins.

SWALCO's annual Pumpkin Smash is a convenient way to green your Halloween! The closest SWALCO drop-off event is Friday, November 4, 7 AM - 4 PM at the Vernon Hills Park District Maintenance Building (1400 Indianwood Drive, Vernon Hills). View all participating locations.

Glencoe Community Garden (380 Old Green bay Road, Glencoe) hosts its annual free, family-friendly Pumpkin Smash on Saturday, November 5, 9 AM - 1 PM. This year, their goal is to save 1,500 pumpkins from landfills. Drive-up is available via the south entrance off of Harbor St., directly east of the Metra tracks. A dumpster is also available outside GCG's south gate now through November 11. For more information, call 847.975.7025.
