Reopened: Green Bay Rd. Between Clavey & Washington

Feb. 16, 4:45 PM: Green Bay Rd. has now reopened with repair work on the gas line, water main, and adjacent roadway complete. NSG is continuing to activate residential service as quickly as possible. Please see below for details.

Feb. 16, 8:30 AM: North Shore Gas (NSG) continues their work to repair the gas line. Please note that service restoration at individual homes will not take place until the main gas line has been restored. When NSG is ready to resume service, NSG staff will need to activate service at each individual home for safety purposes. NSG will visit each home to conduct a pressure test. Further details will be provided via eNews and social media as available. 

Highland Park Police will continue to patrol in the area. 

Lakeshore Recycling Systems has been informed of the road closure and does not anticipate any impacts to service at this time. Please note that LRS collection is slightly delayed today, Tuesday, February 16 due to the snow. 

Feb. 16, 7:30 AM: Please note that Green Bay Rd. will remain closed between Clavey Rd. and Washington Pl. as work continues to repair the gas line and water main. North Shore Gas continues overnight work to repair the gas line this morning. Once the gas line work is completed, repairs to the water main will resume. Please follow the detour and drive with caution.

Feb. 15, 11:15 PM: ComEd reports that service has been restored. Gas service remains off for residents in the vicinity. Impacted residents may find detailed information about overnight accommodations and warming centers at

February 15, 2021, 9:55 PM:  Green Bay Rd. between Clavey Rd. & Washington Pl. remains closed as City and utility crews are on-site responding to the fire that started when a contractor struck a gas line. Police and Fire will continue to monitor the situation as the fire is extinguished and repair work begins.

69 homes in the vicinity are without gas service, and North Shore Gas anticipates working throughout the night to repair the gas line. Police Officers will go door-to-door to impacted homes with additional information. Due to the cold temperatures, residents without gas service may take advantage of the two overnight warming centers (cityhpil.com/warmingcenters) or seek overnight accommodation at an area hotel. The City has made arrangements for a discounted rate. Income-qualified individuals may be eligible for a fee waiver.

ComEd is aware of a limited power outage in the vicinity and expects service to be restored later this evening.

February 15, 2021, 7:05 PM: Green Bay Rd. has been closed between Clavey Rd. and Washington Pl. A gas line at the intersection of Green Bay Rd. and Highland Pl. was hit by a contractor. No one is injured. Police and Fire have secured the scene. North Shore Gas and ComEd are on site to assess next steps.
