January 27, 2020: There is no threat to the community at this time and Highland Park Hospital is operating regularly
On January 27, 2020 at approximately 2:40 PM, Highland Park Police Officers were dispatched to the 700 block of Park Avenue West for a possible gunshot victim in Sunset Woods Park. Officers located an apparent suicide victim with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Subsequently, Highland Park Hospital staff received information that there was a possible person with a firearm in the area. As a result, Highland Park Hospital was placed on lockdown and a police search of the facility and surrounding area was conducted. The facility and area were cleared of any threat and it was determined that the reported individual with a firearm was related to the police activity at Sunset Woods Park. The Police Department has determined that there is no current threat to the community.
Highland Park Hospital is no longer under lockdown. The Police Department investigation of the apparent suicide is ongoing. The City shares condolences with the family of the deceased.
