Highland Park Police Arrest Vehicular Invasion Suspect

On Friday, August 09, 2019 at 4:21 AM, the Highland Park Police Department responded to a reported vehicular invasion that occurred in the 700 block of St. Johns Ave. The adult victim was forced to drive the suspect from the scene to the 0-100 block of Skokie Valley Rd. where the suspect fled on a bicycle. No weapon was displayed or implied and the victim was not injured.

 Police observed the suspect fleeing on the bicycle northbound on the Skokie Valley Bike Trail south of Park Ave. West. The suspect abandoned the bicycle and fled on foot. A perimeter was established and the Police Department’s unmanned aircraft system (UAS) was deployed. The UAS located the suspect hiding in heavy brush. As officers approached the suspect, he again fled on foot to a retention pond where he was taken into custody without incident at 6:22 AM.

The suspect was identified as Gabriel Trevon Antonio Lopez, 18 years old, of Milwaukee, WI.

The incident was reviewed with the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office and the following charges were approved:

  • Vehicular Invasion – 720 ILCS 5/18-6 – Class 1 Felony
  • Unlawful Restraint – 720 ILCS 5/10-3 – Class 3 Felony
  • Resisting or Obstructing a Peace Officer – 720 ILCS 5/31-1 – Class A Misdemeanor
