February 18, 2019 -
Through a public sale, interested individuals and organizations will have an opportunity to acquire remaining items from the Firehouse Youth Center, located at 1830 Green Bay Road in Highland Park. The sale will be conducted Friday, March 8 from 8:30 AM to 4 PM, Saturday, March 9 from 10 AM to 4 PM, and Sunday, March 10 from 11 AM to 3 PM. The contents for sale include various board games, video, and arcade games, billiards and ping-pong tables, electronics, furniture, miscellaneous supplies, literature, and more. There will also be various interior fixtures from the building available such as doors, lighting, and cabinetry. Items for sale will be included in an inventory report which will be posted on the City’s website at www.cityhpil.com and www.sheridan2inc.com prior to the sale.

The City solicited quotes and contracted with Sheridan Estate Sales II, of Wilmette, Illinois, a qualified estate sale services company, to manage the sale including cataloging the contents, marketing the sale, handling point of sale transactions, and coordinating content removal.
Following a thorough review of the Youth Services Program in 2018, including public meetings regarding future plans for the Youth Center, the City discontinued operations of the middle school programing at the Firehouse Youth Center due to low program enrollment and rapidly increasing facility maintenance costs. The City worked closely with effected families to transition Firehouse participants to alternative after-school programs for the 2018 -2019 school year.

In an effort to also preserve the Firehouse structure, the City is currently conducting a request for proposals (RFP) process seeking proposals from qualified entities to purchase and relocate the Firehouse building. The RFP can be found on the City’s website. Should no proposals be received to relocate the Firehouse facility, the structure is planned to be demolished.

For questions pertaining to the upcoming public sale at the Firehouse Youth Center or any other questions related to past programming, building, or site, please contact the City Manager’s Office at 847.926.1000.
