11/ 27/18: Update Regarding ComEd Outages and Warming Centers

November 27, 2018: ComEd Update
On Sunday, November 25, a significant winter storm hit the entire ComEd service area, causing numerous outages within the City. The City remains in regular communication with ComEd regarding the outages in our community. ComEd crews have been working around the clock throughout the region to restore electricity. Given the extensive outages, over 800 additional line workers from across the country arrived this morning to assist with restoration efforts throughout the ComEd territory. ComEd crews are currently working in the City to restore power to as many residents as possible and as quickly as possible.

According to ComEd, as of Tuesday morning, 236 ComEd customers remain without power in the City and 42,000 customers remain without power in the region. ComEd reported that electricity was restored to over 325,000 customers region-wide within the first 24 hours after the storm. ComEd expects that a majority of customers will have power restored by Wednesday, with some pockets that experienced the greatest damage and single customer outages possibly taking longer. ComEd expects that all customers across the region will be restored by Thursday night. ComEd crews are working in the City to get as many customers restored today as possible.

Please continue to report all power outages to ComEd by calling 1.800.edison1 or online at www.ComEd.com. ComEd is continuing to provide updates to their online outage map

If there is an immediate danger due to a downed power line, please call 911.

In order to prevent frozen pipes, residents without power are encouraged to run a small trickle of water on all water fixtures in your home. Please also ensure that any portable generators are used outdoors only due to carbon monoxide emissions. Never run a portable generator indoors.

Downed Trees and Tree Limbs
Heavy snow accumulations on trees along with high winds have caused downed trees and tree limbs in the City. If a tree or tree limb has fallen on a power line, please contact ComEd at 1.800.edison1. Do not touch any trees which are in contact with a power line.  Please report downed tree limbs in the roadway or along the parkway to Public Works during regular business hours at 847.432.0807 or during non-business hours, please report the downed tree limb to Police Non-Emergency at 847.432.7730.

Traffic Conditions
City Public Works crews have been working around the clock clearing snow and ice from roadways. Drivers are asked to continue using caution by slowing down and leaving extra space between your vehicle and any vehicle in front of you as black ice may occur on roads during winter weather conditions. Traffic conditions throughout Lake County can be found online at Lake County Passage.

Damage to Property from Snow Removal Operations
Snow plowing is performed under difficult weather and traffic conditions. Occasionally, areas adjacent to a street can be damaged without the knowledge of plow operator. Any hardscape or streetscape items within right-of-way remain the homeowner's responsibility. Lawns damaged unintentionally by a City plow truck will be repaired the following spring, upon receiving notification by the homeowner. If a mailbox was damaged by City plow equipment, please call Public Works at 847.432.0807 within 48 hours of damage.
