The City will restore grass and replace trees that are removed during construction. The new trees will be smaller in diameter than existing trees because smaller diameter trees have a much better transplanting survival rate compared to larger diameter trees. New trees are eligible for federal grant funding, with the grant covering 80% of the costs and the City’s share at 20%. Residents will be able to select the species of replacement trees from the City nursery stock.
The tree-planting plan will help to mitigate any trees removed during construction. While we will work to avoid tree removal as much as feasible, tree removal may be necessary when trees are in direct conflict with work or when the root system is close to work and survival of the tree is affected. The table here summarizes anticipated tree removal for various alternates.
