The City anticipates traffic will be in a one-way detour configuration for much of construction. Emergency vehicles will access properties within the project limits by also following the one-way detour, currently anticipated to be northbound on Green Bay Road. The width of the one-way temporary lane during construction will be sufficient for emergency vehicles to pass around motorists during a rescue call.
Green Painted Bike Lane (not separated)
This would allow motorists to pull into the bike lanes and stop so emergency vehicles can pass. Bicycle traffic would also be required to stop during emergency rescue calls.
Public roads are open to all - whether driving a car, riding a bicycle, walking or using another method of transportation. Studies have shown that bike lanes improve safety for all users of a road. The City will continue to promote the Illinois rules of the road regulations. According to Illinois regulations, riding two abreast is permitted if the normal and reasonable movement of traffic is not impeded. Riding more than two abreast is prohibited except on paths or parts of roadways set aside for the exclusive use of bicycles. [5/11-1505.1]
