The Highland Park Fire Department has three personnel who are members of the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) Technical Rescue Team (TRT). These members have certified training regulated by the Office of the State Fire Marshal (OSFM) in Illinois. Classifications include Vertical I and II (used to access elevated areas such as water and communication towers), confined space (for difficult-to-access areas such as vaults and pits), Trench I and II (for entry into narrow excavations dug for utilities) and structural collapse.

These members may respond to aid individuals, other fire departments and/or communities in the event of a disaster such as a tornado or a rescue situation that requires technical skills above and beyond typical firefighter training.
