In October 2012 the Historic Preservation Commission and the Highland Park Historical Society partnered to create John Van Bergen Month October 2012. Also participating in this large scale month-long project were District 112, the Highland Park Public Library, and a large group of Van Bergen homeowners all living in Highland Park.

10 structures on the tour feature an audio description that can be downloaded to an MP3 player or listened to over a mobile phone when a special number is dialed. The detailed descriptions offer a glimpse into the history behind the properties and are read by local voice actors.
