Junior Police Academy Applications Available

The Highland Park Police Department invites District 112 students age 9 years or older or any Highland Park/Highwood resident between the ages of 9 and 14, to join the Junior Police Academy. High school students are not eligible to participate. The Academy is August 7 through August 11, from 8:30 AM to 12:00 PM. There is no charge to attend.

“The Junior Police Academy emphasizes moral character development and helps students cultivate positive decision making skills,” said Chief of Police Paul Shafer.

The Junior Police Academy will cover an array of topics including a K9 presentation, traffic stops, crime scene evidence, building searches, and fingerprinting. An emphasis is placed on each child’s role in maintaining the quality of our community. All graduates will receive a Junior Police Academy t-shirt and diploma. 

The Academy will be limited to no more than 25 participants on a first come, first served basis. The application must be submitted to the Highland Park Police Department at 1677 Old Deerfield Road by July 16, 2017. For more information, contact Detective Hernandez at 847.926.1123.
