City of Highland Park 2017 Major Projects Underway

The City of Highland Park 2017 Major Projects include approximately 150 significant public facing initiatives that are outside of the City’s day-to-day operations. City Manager Ghida Neukirch presented the first quarter update of the City’s 2017 Work Plan at the April 12, 2017, City Council Meeting. First quarter highlights include progress on a potential Library expansion; a Common Grant Application in partnership with YEA! Highland Park and the Highland Park Community Foundation; board and commission volunteer training; collaboration with North Shore School District 112 with regard to Edgewood Middle School site improvements; fire lieutenant emergency medical technician and police officer recruitment; reaccreditation applications for Police, Fire and Public Works Departments; route improvements to the Senior Connector; and planning for the City’s 150th Anniversary.

“The City’s mission is to provide fiscally responsible, high-quality services through effective, transparent and collaborative governance,” said City Manager Ghida Neukirch. “The major projects are established based on the foundation of the City’s mission and core priorities: Fiscal Stability, Public Safety, Infrastructure Investment, and Community Vibrancy. The work plan is proactive, aggressive and reflects the quality programs and service provided to the community.”

The Major Projects are primarily established in the preceding year based on input from the City Council, public and staff.  The work plan and the first quarter update are available at www.cityhpil.com/workplan. Initiatives and projects are organized by department and will be further updated on the City’s website and presented to the City Council on a quarterly basis.
